Welcome to the web pages of Androloy and Urology. The aim of those pages is to examine matters about urinary tract (urology) or male genital system (Andrology). For the Andrology and Urology wideness, we can treat only some aspects, the most interesting or the most requested.
Kidney: it is a vital organ of our body, is function is the production of urine. We will examine its embrional growth tougheter the growth of the others genitourinary organs.
Bladder: it is a hollow muscular organ that serves as a reservoir for urine. In women, its posterior wall and dome are invaginated by the uterus. The adult bladder normally has a capacity of 350-450 ml.
Prostate: it is a fibromuscular and glandular organ lying just inferior to the bladder. the normal prostate weighs about 20 g and contains the posterior urethra, which is about 2.5 cm in length. This is the organ that involve a lot of attention for we urologists, in fact we usually have to tract prostate inflammation (prostatitis), benign disease (prostatic adenoma synonymous of benign prostatic hyperplasia) or malignant disease (prostate cancer).
Testis: the human testis is an organ of dual function: spermatogenesis (sperms production) which occurs in the seminiferous tubles, and secretion of steroid hormones (androgens) by Leydig cells. These testicular functions are intimately related, as testosterone synthesis is required not only for sperm production but also for the development of secondary sexual characteristics and normal sexual behavior.
Andrology examine male sexual dysfunction and male infertility. A better understanding of male dysfunction has recently been made possible by innovative laboratory and clinical research in the hemodynamics, neurophysiology and pharmacology of male reproductive system.
